The PLAINS

The format for the Plains program is essentially the same as you see in the Eastern Woodlands program.  While the structure is the same, the content and museum are different because culture changes depending on the land and the tribe. For example, Plains Indians would travel and follow buffalo herds, so they lived in Tipis because they were easy to put up and take down.

SCHEDULING

In response to requests from teachers who want to minimize the total amount of screen time, we recommend that you break our program into 2 days.

Sample Schedule:

9:30-10:15  Museum and Longhouse presentation with Bob and Maddi

10:15-10:25 Longhouse 360 degree interactive tour

10:25-10:45 break or other classroom activity

10:45-11:30 Haudenosaunee Government

Day 2

9:30-10:15 Story and Game presentation (Live via zoom or other platform)

10:15-10:30 Students play game offline from each individual desk

10:30-10:45 Break

10:45-11:30 Symbol Project presentation (Note: students will each create their own project later in the day)

11:30-11:45 Question and Answer session

This is just a sample; your own schedule can be modified based on your needs.  Instead of two days as you see here, it could all be done in one full day or it could be broken up into three days if you prefer.

We’ve worked hard to create for you a new program with what we think is great value.  Here’s what two schools said about the virtual/online presentations we delivered last spring:

“The 4th graders of the T. Baldwin Demarest Elementary School in Old Tappan, NJ, thoroughly enjoyed an ‘in school field trip’ with ‘Journeys Into American Indian Territory’ for the past two years. This year, due to COVID19, we had a two day ‘Virtual Field Trip.’ It was fantastic and exceeded our expectations! Bob and Maddie’s extraordinary program captured the students’ attention the entire time. Bob’s knowledge is amazing, and he knows just how to relate to 4th graders.  Maddi is the ultimate storyteller, enthralling us with her animated stories. We HIGHLY recommend this virtual program!”

- Sharyn DeGregory for the 4th Grade Team

“Journeys into American Indian Territory created a fabulous virtual program for our third graders this spring. Bob and Maddi are incredibly kind, knowledgeable, patient, and lively presenters who quickly developed a rapport with our students! They left plenty of time to answer our students' many questions as well! It is amazing how they were able to hold our student's attention on Zoom and engage them in the activities for several hours! Both third grade teachers and students rave about this program and recommend it highly!”

- Debra Apfelbaum, SAR Academy
